Rape: You’re not supposed to be counted among women

Actress Ada Ameh has slammed Actress Bukky Black for supporting Actor Baba Ijesha who was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.

LIB reported earlier that Bukky who spoke in Yoruba in a video shared online, placed a curse on people who kick others when they are down. She added that Ijesha who is being accused of a crime he committed 7 years ago without evidence, was set up 7 years later because he got popular in the movie industry.

Bukky further said she wants people to look for a solution to the issue on ground and that she doesn’t care if she’s insulted for airing her opinion.

Reacting to this Ada Ameh stated that Bukky is not supposed to be counted among women. Ameh who maintained that entertainers are one in spite of the movie industry they belong to, described the veteran Yoruba actress as a ”stupid woman” who is ignoring the pains of having a child.

She also maintained that an injustice against one woman is an injustice against all. Watch the video below;

House of Reps Minority Leader, Elumelu empowers 350 constituents

By Festus Ahon, ASABA

MINORITY Leader of the Federal House of Representatives and member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Mr Ndudi Elumelu, Saturday flagged off empowerment programme with 350 beneficiaries drawn from the Constituency.

Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa flagged off the distribution and presentation of the empowerment items, commended Mr Ndudi Elumelu for the gesture, adding that it would help lift the people out of the poverty level.

While encouraging other representatives and well-meaning Deltans to emulate Mr Ndudi Elumelu, Okowa said the gesture was in the right direction and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ndudi Elumelu, said the 350 beneficiaries were drawn from various wards across the four local government areas in the Federal constituency that he represents at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

While listing the empowerment items to include; 111 electricity generating sets, 90 deep freezers, 148 motorcycles and 107 tricycles, he said the items would assist the beneficiaries to engage in some form of independent, lucrative enterprise.

The Federal Lawmaker explained that the whole idea was to make the beneficiaries small business owners who would eventually help in creating jobs and reducing poverty in their immediate communities.

Elumelu said: “I urge the beneficiaries to be passionate in putting these items into proper use and to see this as an opportunity to climb to an enviable level of prosperity which is before you today.

“Though it appears insignificant, it is my expectation that from this small beginning, with determination, focus and fear of God, you will be able to record amazing testimonies, not only as employers of labour in our communities but also providers of essential social services to meet some of the essential needs of our people”.

While commending Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his administration’s sustained efforts in reducing poverty through various empowerment programmes, he said; “your passionate effort has brought, in no small measure, prosperity to a very good number of our youths and people in Delta State.

“We will continue to join and support you (Governor Ifeanyi Okowa), in bringing joy, peace and progress to our people, even as I restate my resolve, never to allow what is due our people elude them so long as I remain their representative in the House of Representatives.”

Elumelu who spoke further said he has attracted some developmental projects to the area, sponsored and moved motions on the floor of the House to the benefits of his constituents and also done a lot of empowerment in the last two years as representative of the people of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.

FA Cup final: Iheanacho, Ndidi, Kante start as Leicester, Chelsea clash

As Chelsea slug it out with Leicester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel’s side will be hoping to pass the first test in their domestic-European club pursuit this season, with their Champions League final against Manchester City to follow.

Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are handed starting roles in the match.

Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester currently rank ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League table and the club are aiming to lift the Cup for the first time in their history.

The FA Cup final will be decided with 30 minutes of extra time and penalties if required.

This season’s final is taking place before the end of the Premier League season, and the last time this happened was in 2012/13, when Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City 1-0.

For today’s final, over 20,000 people have trooped to Wembley Stadium.

Before kickoff at 17:15 BST, the Duke of Cambridge will be presented to both teams.

Speaking to The PUNCH on Saturday, Nigerian football writer, Clinton McDubus, believes that Chelsea will turn up victorious by a narrow margin.

“I think it will be a draw at full time and go into extra time. 1-0 win for Chelsea most likely,” said McDubus.

“I think finals like this largely depend on experience. Chelsea have players who have dealt with this kind of pressure consistently compared to Leicester. Also, Leicester look heavily reliant on Kelechi these days. If he’s shut down, they are unlikely to do anything significant, as Vardy is in dire form and Barnes is still out.

“History also plays a part. Leicester have lost all the FA Cup finals they’ve ever played, the last being in 1969. They’ve had better luck in the league cup but they’ve not won that since 2000. They have a lot to overcome.

“Chelsea are the 3rd most successful club in the FA Cup. Since 94, they’ve gotten to 10 FA Cup finals. They’ve beaten every team they’ve faced in those 10 finals except Arsenal (whom they’ve lost to in 3 different finals).

“So, history favours Chelsea. Momentum favours Chelsea. Quality favours Chelsea. Experience favours Chelsea.

“We might certainly see an upset but it looks exactly like the kind of final Chelsea always win. Their last 6 FA Cup final wins were by 1 goal. 5 of them ended 1-0.”

Since the turn of the century, Chelsea have reached the FA Cup final on ten occasions and have lifted the trophy six times.

Leicester, on the other hand, have never won the title, with their last final appearance in 1969.

Chelsea line-up: Kepa, Azpilicueta (C), Thiago Silva, Rüdiger, James, Kante, Jorginho, Alonso, Ziyech, Werner, Mount.

Substitutes: Mendy, Chilwell, Emerson, Zouma, Gilmour, Havertz, Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic, Giroud

Leicester City line-up: Schmeichel (C) Castagne, Fofana, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas, Ndidi, Tielemans, Perez, Iheanacho, Vardy.

Substitutes: Ward, Morgan, Amartey, Ricardo, Choudhury, Mendy, Praet, Maddison, Albrighton

Policeman returns N1.2m to accident victim’s family in Kano

A police Sergeant, Mr Kabiru Isah, has returned N1.2 million recovered from an accident scene to the relatives of the deceased in Kano state.

The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abdullahi Haruna, said this in a statement on Saturday in Kano.

Haruna said that the policeman attached to the command’s Motor Traffic Division (MTD) recovered the money while conducting analysis at an accident scene on the Kano-Zaria road.

He said that an articulated vehicle had knocked down a motorcycle rider, who died on the spot, adding that the victim was in possession of the money packed in a box.

“The police officer returned N1,294,200 found at the scene of the fatal accident,” he said.

Haruna said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Sama’ila Dikko, handed over the money to the relatives of the deceased and called on police personnel and residents of the state to emulate Isah’s good deed.

According to him, the Managing Director, Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Mr Baffa Dan-Agundi, gifted Isah with N100,000 as reward for his honesty and dedication to duty.

Army vows to deal with personnel engaging authorities on social media

The Nigerian Army on Saturday vowed to deal severely with any of its personnel caught using social media to engage the authorities.

It said the Army has established mechanisms of responding to administrative issues and resorting to social media was not one of them.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Mohammed Yerima, said this in a statement on Saturday.

He was reacting to a petition written to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), by some Non-Commissioned Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers to reject the proposed Nigerian Army Welfare Housing Scheme.

Yerima said the names and service numbers of signatories on the petition do not exist in Army’s records.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that some Non-Commissioned Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers had petitioned the President to reject the proposed Nigerian Army Welfare Housing Scheme.

In the petition co-signed by 05NA/57/2084 Sgt. Yusuf Shetima,04NA/55/0925 Cpl James Ibok, 09NA/62/5578 LCPL Danladi Ibrahim,11NA/66/10622 LCPL Afolabi Showumi and 13NA/70/11034 PTE Lucky Dolph, they described the project as fraudulent.

But Yerima said the scheme was meant to benefit soldiers and members of their family.

He said the Chief of Army Staff met an Army Housing Scheme in the pipeline and constituted a committee to understudy its feasibility.

Yerima added that the committee, in its bid to allow soldiers speak their mind on the scheme and know those interested in the project, designed a questionnaire.

He stated that it was while administering the questionnaire to soldiers that agent provocateurs seized the moment to condemn the scheme.

The statement titled, ‘Re: Rejection of the proposed Nigerian Army Welfare Housing Scheme’, read, “The signatories who claimed to be writing on behalf of NA soldiers are fictitious names and numbers which are non-existent in the Nigerian Army records.

“The current Chief of Army Staff met an Army Housing Scheme in the pipeline and constituted a committee to understudy its feasibility and desirability.

“Questionnaire was subsequently designed by the committee for soldiers to bare their minds on the scheme and to ascertain those who are interested in it.

“It was still at this stage of administering the questionnaire to soldiers that agent provocateurs seized the moment to demonise the scheme with toxic narratives.

“Members of the Nigerian Army have established mechanisms of responding to administrative issues and resort to social media is not one of them. Any personnel caught using social media to engage the authorities will be severely dealt with.

“It is however curious that a scheme meant to benefit soldiers and families could be so flagrantly twisted in the social media using names and numbers that are alien to the Nigerian Army. The motive for this kind of strange act will ultimately be uncovered.”
