Almost 4,000 fully vaccinated people in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19

Published

on

Nearly 4,000 fully vaccinated people in Massachusetts, US, have tested positive for COVID-19, according to new data from the state Department of Public Health.

The number of breakthrough cases in the state has accounted for approximately one in 1,000 vaccinated people.

According to the state Department of Public Health, as of June 12, there were 3,791 coronavirus cases among the more than 3.7 million fully vaccinated individuals in Massachusetts.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, large-scale clinical studies have found that COVID-19 vaccination prevented most people from getting the virus. Still, no vaccine is 100% effective at preventing the disease and there will be “a small percentage of fully vaccinated people who still get sick, are hospitalized, or die from COVID-19.”

“We’re learning that many of the breakthrough infections are asymptomatic or they’re very mild and brief in duration,” said Boston University infectious diseases specialist Davidson Hamer, according to the Boston Herald.

“The viral load is not very high.”

“Breakthroughs are expected, and we need to better understand who’s at risk and whether people who have a breakthrough can transmit the virus to others,” he continued.

“In some cases, they’ll be shedding such low levels of the virus and won’t be transmitting to others.”

“Testing to identify current infection remains critical to control of COVID-19,” a DPH spokeswoman said.

“People with current infection can spread the virus to others and isolation of cases and identification of close contacts (individuals who may have been exposed) is a foundation of public health response.”

A new study from the CDC showed that Pfizer and Moderna are about 90% effective against infection two weeks after the last dose has passed while the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is about 72% effective against moderate to severe disease.

Iwo Road: Police arrest suspects, gunmen kill three in Ibadan

Published

on

Oyo State Police Command on Monday paraded three suspects arrested in connection with last Wednesday’s mayhem at Iwo Road, Ibadan, the state capital.

The suspects are officials of Park Management System, which runs the affairs of motor parks in the state since Governor Seyi Makinde proscribed the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and established the PMS.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko, while briefing journalists, said the suspects were arrested because of their alleged involvement in the mayhem.

The CP said, ‘Investigation is still ongoing, I will continue to update you about what we get from the investigation.”

Speaking on the increasing insecurity in the state capital, the CP stated that the police were working round the clock to curb this. She also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies to achieve this.

One of the suspects, Omoniyi Elemo, told journalists that he did not attack anybody but claimed that he was attacked and injured by some of the phone dealers.

He stated that the police arrested him at the hospital where he was taken to for treatment, saying he knew nothing about the clash.

He said he was working at Iwo Road as an official of the PMS and on the fateful day, he approached a motorist who wanted to park on the road. He said he told him not to obstruct the way but the driver said he had no right to instruct him where to or not to park.

Elemo said as he was trying to explain to the driver, some boys came out from the Iwo Road Shopping Complex and started beating him. He added that one of the boys injured him on the face with a stone and he was taken to hospital from where he was arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, gunmen on a motorcycle reportedly invaded Iyana Court, Ile Titun area in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Ibadan and killed three persons.

Bank Staff Converge At Senator Andy Uba’s House In Abuja To Demand Payment Of Loan He Owes (VIDEO)

Published

on

Over 20 Heritage Bank Plc employees raided Senator Andy Uba’s Abuja home today, June 21, to demand that he repay the bank the loan he owes. Senator Andy Uba represents the Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate.

Workers wearing trademark T-shirts and Jean trousers were seen assembled in front of Uba’s residence in protest, banners in hand, in a video uploaded online.

A voice in the video indicated they were Heritage Bank employees who had come to the Senator’s house to put pressure on him to repay his loans after many attempts had failed. They said they felt obligated to act because their jobs were on the line, and that if the loans were not repaid, they would lose their employment.

The voice said:

“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Today is Monday, the 21st day of June 2021, and we have here the staff members of Heritage Bank Pl, Abuja. We are in front of Senator Andy Uba’s house in Abuja.

Senator Uba has been owing the bank for a couple of years now and we are here for a peaceful meeting with him, very peaceful meeting. To ask him to kindly repay those loans because they are depositors’ funds.

Those monies, if they are not repaid, will throw the number of the people you see here, with their families out of work ad we know the situation of the economy now. If this number of people are thrown out of work, you know what it means.

So we are here to appeal to the Distinguished Senator to kindly pay this money so that these people will not lose their job…”

The senator is yet to react to this development.
