A little boy, Muhammad Kabir, who was kidnapped from his parents’ home in a Kaduna state, has been found dead, seven days after he was taken and N5 million ransom was paid for his release.

DailyTrust reports that Kabir was taken from the Badarawa suburb of Kaduna North local government area and is believed to have been killed by his kidnappers, one of whom is said to be his neighbour. His body was found in drainage in Kano after a weeklong search and returned to Kaduna today May 1 for burial.

Sources in the community also said immediately the boy was declared missing, a search for him was done for days before a call came in from the kidnappers demanding N50m, and then later reduced the amount to N35m before finally agreeing to N5m.

Abdulrahman Kabir Magayaki, a brother to the victim, said late Kabir was taken away from their house to Zaria then to Kano State where his body was retrieved after the ransom was paid.

“One of the suspects that took the boy away was our neighbour while the ex-military personnel was also a resident in the community. They took him to Zaria from there to Kano where his body was retrieved inside drainage after they collected 5 million naira ransom,” he said.

Abdulrahman said the victim’s body was brought back to Kaduna and buried according to Islamic rites on Saturday May 1. Another resident, on condition of anonymity, said the victim must have been killed after he recognised the faces of his abductors since they all live in the same area.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kaduna state police command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said three suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime, including the neighbour.

He said they all confessed to the crime but said he cannot comment on the military background of one of the suspects until after the investigation is concluded.

Osogbo rally: Shehu Sani knocks Yoruba Nation agitators, says rainfall is divine message

Published

on

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, says the rainfall that “dispersed” Yoruba Nation agitators on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, is a “divine message” for them to change their minds and embrace a united Nigeria.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, joined other agitators to demand Yoruba Nation on Saturday.

Igboho addressed the rally which witnessed heavy presence of operatives of the Nigeria Police Force as well as men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Also sighted at the venue were men of Amotekun corps, who were positioned at strategic spot.

Our correspondent observed that rain began to fall as soon as Igboho stepped down from the podium, thus, “dispersing” the agitators.

Reacting in a tweet, Sani wrote, “The heavy rainfall that dispersed the separatist agitators in Osogbo is a divine message for them to change cause and work for the unity of our country. The idea of an ethnic or religious purist state stems from a xenophobic mind intolerant to co-existence.”

No going back on open grazing ban, says Wike

Published

on

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that he will implement the ban on open grazing as resolved by Southern State governors in Asaba, Delta State.

The Governor said he cannot be cowed by anybody, saying there is no going back on the decision to ban open grazing in Rivers State.

Wike stated this at a grand reception in his honour by the people of the Ogoni ethnic nationality in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, even as he was also conferred with a chieftaincy title by the Ogoni people led by the Chairman, Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, HRM King Godwin Giniwa.

He said Rivers belonged to people from every part of the state, urging the Ogoni people to resist any form of intimidation by anyone who wanted them to take the back seat in the scheme of things.

While noting that militarization of election in the state will not work, he warned incoming council chairmen in the state to brace, adding that the State House of Assembly will not hesitate to suspend nonperforming chairmen.

“Nobody should play God. We will flog them again. Militarization of election will not work. Didn’t they bring Army before? Did it work? We will flog them again.

“Nobody can cow me. The government cannot cow me. I will say my mind and I will do what is right for my people. Nobody can kill me before my time. I will die the day God wants me to die.

“Let me also tell those who are criticizing Southern Governors’ ban on open grazing, let me inform them that I have taken further steps to enforce what the southern governors resolved in Asaba.

“If anyone wants to die, let him go and die and hang himself on an electric pole. We (Southern Governors) have taken a decision and there is no going back. Enough is enough. We are not second-class citizens of this country. We also own this country and we must partake in what is happening in this country,” Wike stated.

The governor said he has directed security agencies in the state to arrest prominent personalities in the state, who flout the curfew imposed in the state to check the spate of insecurity.

Governor Wike said any prominent person caught should be thoroughly dealt with, to serve as a deterrence to others.

“Obey the curfew time. It is very important. I have instructed the security agencies to arrest prominent personalities who flout the curfew time and use them as examples. I am looking for prominent people that I will use as examples,” Wike said.
